Summary
It’s still summertime! The time for rest and relaxation.. that is unless you get an inkling that you are doing the same things over and over again, which is exactly what is happening. Kyon is called out to spend his summer with Haruhi and the gang as they did in the last episode. During their excursions Kyon and Koizumi can’t help but experience de ja vu as they recall doing the same exact things before. Whilst all this, Yuki seems bored or actually depressed as the events are being played over again with a few small discrepancies.

Kyon is awoken by his phone and he picks it up only to be frightened by crying. Kyon goes out to where Mikuru, Koizumi, and Yuki are. Mikuru reveals that she cannot return to her time. Koizumi then implies that time is being repeated over and over again while nobody except those who are close to Haruhi can sense it. Yuki then reveals that their endless summer has repeated itself 15,498 times but with a few discrepencies wherein a few events are omitted. When asked later why Yuki hasn’t done anything, her reply was that her job is only to observe. Now towards the end of that particular summer, Haruhi dismisses the group but Kyon feels he must do something or else they will repeat the summer. In the end, he was not able to do anything and the cycle will go on.

Onibaku

I mentioned in my previous post that they kept phasing the camera toward Yuki for no apparent reason and now we know why. It was quaint to see that Yuki actually showed emotion. Though quaint, you could say something big or something wrong is going to happen regarding Yuki because of the fact that she was programed not to show any emotion and yet she does. SPOILER:G0o mentioned that this may be a major step and cause for Yuki’s breakdown which will lead to the disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Anyone would break down if you had to do the same thing fifteen thousand times I suppose.

Last time they showed many hints to Haruhi’s feelings towards Kyon but this time around they showed a little bit of attraction on Kyon’s part towards Haruhi and a little bit of rivalry with Koizumi? As with episode 6 of the series, i’m guessing that ending the time loop will have to do with the relationship between Kyon and Haruhi. They also made it clear that Haruhi must feel unfulfilled at the end of every summer. If this is the case, then Kyon will have to act and make sure that her summer is complete. Kyon already knows this as shown in the last scene. All we have to do is wait for the next episode to see what he will do. Haruhi wants to do everything that people would normally do in summer. What on earth would japanese students do together in summer vacation? :D

Kyoani really put out all the stops in this episode. With animation, drawing, and music, I was drooling all over the place. The music throughout the episode really portrayed the melancholic feeling Yuki had. Almost every scene had been drawn carefully with detail and with beautiful colors. They also had 3d effects used in some scenes such as the fog coming out of the tea cup picture above. I am in love with shows with high quality animation and details.  I used to stream shows but ever since my right eye turned to crap it’s been nothing but mkv and if possible, blue ray. That aside, I thouroughly recommend this episode.
