Canon Powershot S95

Canon Powershot S95
I finally got a chance to get my hands on a Canon Powershot S95! After telling my mom again and again that she needed a camera for herself, she finally bought this baby. Just in time for mother’s day. XD

I will be reviewing the Canon Powershot S95 in this post and it will be short but packed with the good stuff.

CanonPowershotS95
As usual i’ll start this post with the body shots of the Canon Powershot S95.

CanonPowershotS95
Front view is quite excellent, the first time I held it in my hands I can immediately say it’s of good build and good quality, a notch above the Ixus compacts.

Backdoor view. Nothing much to see here.

The LCD is decent in size for a compact. It’s 3.0″ with 461,000 pixels and the preview quality of the image is very impressive.

Batteries and Memory card below, the battery is quite smaller compared to the Ixus 300HS.

CanonPowershotS95
Buttons above looks neat, not that scary for camera noobies. The Canon G12 looks too complicated compared to the simple setup of the Canon Powershot S95.

The tiny cutesy flash popped out.

So for the biased point of view, I specially love the manual control rings, the one at the front and a rear dial at the back. It makes life much easier to change settings and the manual controls are customizable!

Another deciding factor was the amazingly wide open apperture of f/2.0 and the back lit sensor(HS System) which I found very impressive on the Canon Ixus 300HS. Finally the last deciding factor why we picked the S95 over the G12 is the COMPACT-ness.

I was surprised with the video capabilities of this compact, it’s quite good for it’s own league. If you think 720p is too little or too low quality, think again. I was awed by the video playback, though the downside here is the audio. What do you expect? It’s a FKING COMPACT! XD

The not so biased facts:
Canon PowerShot S95 – key features:

10MP Digic4 imaging processor.
HS System(Back-light) & f/2.0 lens.
28mm wide, 3.8x zoom lens, Hybrid IS.
Manual Control Ring, manual rear dial control.
Shoots JPEG and RAW.
3.0″ Crystal clear LCD
720p HD video recording.
High Dynamic Range mode
AV, TV, M, C modes.

After shooting with the Canon IXUS 300HS for some time, I can really say that the Canon Powershot S95 is “BETTER” on all of it’s features. Well it’s to be expected from a top class compact. Do expect that both cameras do their job. They both take good PICTURES! Photo junkies like me or anyone who just loves to shoot and not care about cameras would appreciate the simplicity and the power of the S95. I do suggest this camera to noobies, hobbyist, and anyone who just wants to take a picture.

Here’s a video review by Digitalrev on the Canon Powershot S95:

WordPress 3.1 = OTL

Wordpress 3.1 = OTL

It’s been a week since I’ve updated to WP 3.1 and I still wish I didn’t upgrade to that version. When WordPress.org posted “WordPress 3.1, lots of fun” they lied. It really means you’re doomed! Well that’s just an exaggeration, well actually it just leaves your site a little f*cked up.

Well I didn’t lose hope when I found multiple Error 404′s on my posts, I just panicked a few hours. Google was my friend so I asked him for help, he showed me a lot of links containing answers. A lot of ways to fix things temporarily and not fix it the way it was. Most famous instructions were 1.Disable/Enable all plugins 2.Delete .htaccess from my server and let WP regenerate it 3.Setting your permalinks to default. None of them worked. I panicked again and more hours were spent reading more people’s posts.

This thread was the real “lots of fun”, It has all the fix for “known” issues found by people who upgraded, and found their own fixes. In my case, installing the Permalink Fix & Disable Canonical Redirects Pack solved my 404 problems. Glad that one’s over. The only problem left was the categories still broken. I found that the dropdown category widget still works so I decided to stick with that until they fix all these bugs on the next “STABLE” version. I’m running now the 3.1-RC3 version, hoping it will fix the categories but… yeah “lots of fun”.

So before upgrading to 3.1 make sure to think twice. And if you’re up to the “lots of fun” challenge then go ahead and jump in.

PENTAX Kr Korejanairobomoderu

Pentax K-r Korejanai

Good move from Pentax releasing an unusual camera. It’s called a Pentax K-r Korejanai. It’s a DSLR camera with a WTF robot look. Cool for kiddies and kiddies at heart, or just simple camera collectors, or hardcore Pentax fans! Rush to the Pentax site at December 24 to get it as it’s a limited edition that will only sell 100 units.

Well it’s still a good camera after all without that crazy look, plus it comes with a 35mm f/2.4 lens for an entry level price. I would want this as a present just for the fun and holidays but would not buy it. :berseru:

Sauce.
More sauce.

Ninite.com

ninite.com

PC crashed, forgot to backup and need to reinstall apps? Well that happened to me not so long ago (just LAST WEEK). And found this awesome site called ninite.com. Just pick all your needed software, hit get installer, then it downloads and installs everything while you grab some snacks and drink some hot tea. Shared this at my twitter and fb account and glad that it helped a lot of people I know. Now sharing it here to help more people become lazier! :senang:

Four thumbs up to the staff of Ninite.com!

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens CUP

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens CUP

After 7 weeks of waiting it finally came knocking by my doorstep. The not so awesome Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens CUP! :sombong:
It came free when I bought my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens back in August.

It’s not as awesome as you think, and as I thought it was. My K-On! Cup is 100% more awesome than this. Check the Keion cup, not Mio’s Cup. :berseru:

More pics to celebrate the not so awesomeness of my new cup!

Btw my PC is acting funny again. BSOD twice this week, and required two Startup Repair sessions to get fixed. It’s slower than usual and that’s one of the reasons my season reviews got delayed. Will work on those asap when this PC wakes up from it’s OTL state.
Kill off that BSOD!
